Ingredients

Servings:
2
  • 0.5 lb Ground Pork or Chicken (Trader Joe's brand)
  • 1 piece Bell Pepper (Any color, finely diced)
  • 0.5 piece Small Onion (Finely diced)
  • 1 tbsp Trader Joe's Minced Garlic
  • 1 tsp Trader Joe's Ginger Paste
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce (Trader Joe's brand)
  • 1 tbsp Rice Vinegar (Trader Joe's brand)
  • 1 tsp Trader Joe's Chili Garlic Sauce (Adjust to your spice preference)
  • 0.5 tsp Honey or Agave Nectar (Trader Joe's brand)
  • 0.5 tsp Sesame Oil (Trader Joe's brand)
  • 6 piece Corn or Flour Tortillas (Small street taco size recommended)
  • 0.3 cup Fresh Cilantro (Chopped, for garnish)
  • 1 piece Lime (Cut into wedges, for serving)
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable Oil (For cooking)

Instructions

  1. 1

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, chili garlic sauce, honey/agave nectar, and sesame oil. Set aside.

  2. 2

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat. Add the ground pork or chicken and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat.

  3. 3

Add the diced bell pepper and onion to the skillet with the cooked meat. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until the vegetables start to soften.

  4. 4

Stir in the minced garlic and ginger paste and cook for another minute until fragrant.

  5. 5

Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the meat and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.

  6. 6

While the filling simmers, warm your tortillas. You can do this in a dry skillet over medium heat for 30 seconds per side, microwave briefly, or wrap in a damp paper towel and microwave.

  7. 7

To assemble, spoon the Szechuan filling into the warm tortillas. Garnish generously with fresh chopped cilantro and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.

Chef's Tips

  • 💡Trader Joe's pre-chopped garlic and ginger paste are college apartment kitchen heroes for speed and ease!
  • 💡If you like extra heat, add a pinch of Trader Joe's Red Pepper Flakes to the filling while it simmers.
  • 💡For an extra layer of flavor and crunch, you could quickly toast some Trader Joe's Roasted Seaweed Snacks, crumble them, and sprinkle on top of the tacos.
