Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb ground beef, 80/20 lean
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped

  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 15 oz can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 15 oz can pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

    Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess fat.

    Add chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet with the beef. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
