Ground Beef Burgundy with Creamy Polenta

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb Ground Beef
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 large Onion (chopped)
  • 2 medium Carrots (chopped)
  • 2 stalks Celery (chopped)
  • 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 3 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 2 tbsp All-Purpose Flour
  • 1.5 cups Dry Red Wine (Burgundy, Pinot Noir, or Merlot)
  • 2 cups Beef Broth
  • 1 tsp Dried Thyme
  • 1 piece Bay Leaf
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black Pepper
  • 8 oz Cremini Mushrooms (sliced)
  • 2 tubes Pre-made Polenta
  • 1/2 cup Milk (or more, to taste)
  • 2 tbsp Butter (optional)
  • 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese (optional)

Instructions

    In a large Dutch oven or pot, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess fat.

    Add chopped onion, carrots, and celery to the pot. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
