Ingredients

Servings:
18
  • 2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 piece Large egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp Green gel food coloring (or more, to desired color)
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar (for glaze (optional))
  • 2 tbsp Milk (for glaze (optional))
  • to taste Assorted sprinkles, candy eyes, or small candies (for decorating)

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Have an adult help with the oven!

  2. 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. 3

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar with an electric mixer (or a strong spoon and elbow grease!) until light and fluffy. This is a fun part where the butter gets really soft and fluffy!

  4. 4

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined. Then, add the green gel food coloring and mix until the dough is a bright, uniform 'alien slime' green! Add more coloring if you want it super vibrant.

  5. 5

Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed (or with a spoon) until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, or your cookies might get tough.

  6. 6

Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet. You can slightly flatten them with the palm of your hand if you want flatter cookies.

  7. 7

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set. Don't overbake! The cookies will look a little soft in the middle but will firm up as they cool. Ask an adult to help with the hot oven.

  8. 8

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

  9. 9

Optional Glaze & Decorating: While the cookies cool, you can make a simple glaze by whisking the powdered sugar with 2-3 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Once cookies are cool, drizzle or spread the glaze over the cookies. This is the best part! Decorate immediately with sprinkles, candy eyes, or other fun candies to make your alien slime cookies come to life!

Chef's Tips

  • 💡Have fun with the food coloring! You can make them light green, dark green, or even try blue for 'space slime' cookies. Gel food coloring works best for vibrant colors.
  • 💡Adult supervision is key, especially around the hot oven and electric mixer. Let kids do the mixing, rolling, and decorating!
  • 💡Don't worry about perfect shapes – 'weird' is the goal here! Embrace the unique creations your little baker makes.
  • 💡Let your imagination run wild with decorations! Candy eyes, colorful sprinkles, chocolate chips, or even small gummy worms can make these cookies extra special.
