Ingredients

For the Orange Layer:
– 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed or store-bought)
– 1/2 cup heavy cream
– 1/4 cup granulated sugar
– 1 tablespoon orange zest
– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Layer:
– 1 cup whole milk
– 1/2 cup heavy cream
– 1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
– 1/4 cup granulated sugar
– 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Make the Orange Layer:
    1. In a medium bowl, whisk together orange juice, heavy cream, sugar, orange zest, and vanilla extract until the sugar is dissolved.
    2. Pour the orange mixture evenly into popsicle molds, filling each mold halfway.
    3. Freeze for about 1 hour, or until the layer is mostly set but not rock hard.
  2. Make the Chocolate Layer:
    1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, heavy cream, sugar, and cocoa powder. Whisk until smooth and just starting to steam (do not boil).
    2. Remove from heat and add chocolate chips. Stir until melted and smooth. Mix in vanilla extract.
    3. Let the chocolate mixture cool to room temperature.
  3. Assemble the Popsicles:
    1. Once the orange layer is set, pour the cooled chocolate mixture over the orange layer in each mold, filling to the top.
    2. Insert popsicle sticks and freeze for at least 3 hours, or until completely solid.
  4. Unmold and Serve:
    1. To release the popsicles, run the molds under warm water for a few seconds.
    2. Enjoy immediately, or store in an airtight container in the freezer.

Tips

  • For a stronger orange flavor, add a few drops of orange extract to the orange layer.
  • You can substitute half-and-half for heavy cream for a lighter version.
  • If you don’t have popsicle molds, use small paper cups and wooden sticks.

FAQ

Can I use orange soda instead of juice?
Yes, but the flavor will be sweeter and less natural.

Can I make this dairy-free?
