Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 lbs)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (or rice vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and black pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, apple cider vinegar, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook for 5-6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium. Pour the honey garlic sauce mixture into the same skillet. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  5. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Stir the slurry into the simmering sauce and cook for 1-2 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
  6. Return the chicken breasts to the skillet, turning to coat them in the glaze. Simmer for another 2-3 minutes, spooning sauce over the chicken.
  7. Remove from heat. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice or vegetables.
