Ingredients

  • 1 package (12-count) Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese (or American cheese)
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle chips
  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce (optional)
  • 1 small tomato, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Without separating the rolls, slice the entire block of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom half in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cook, breaking up the meat, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  4. Press the cooked beef into a flat, even layer roughly the size of the rolls. (You can do this in the pan or transfer to a cutting board and shape.)
  5. Place the beef layer evenly over the bottom half of the rolls in the baking dish.
  6. Lay the cheese slices over the beef, covering it completely.
  7. Add pickle chips, lettuce, and tomato slices if using.
  8. Place the top half of the rolls over the fillings.
  9. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with sesame seeds (if using). Brush the tops of the rolls with the butter mixture.
  10. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 10 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 5 minutes, until the tops are golden and the cheese is melted.
  11. Remove from oven. Let cool for 5 minutes, then slice into individual sliders.
  12. Serve with mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard on the side, or spread on the rolls before assembling if desired.

Tips & FAQ

  • Can I make these ahead? Yes! Assemble the sliders up to the baking step, cover, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Bake just before serving.
  • What other toppings work? Try sautéed onions, bacon, or jalapeños for extra flavor.
  • Can I use different cheese? Absolutely—Swiss, pepper jack, or mozzarella all work well.
