Ingredients
- 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced (optional)
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Cooked white or brown rice, for serving
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, beef broth (or water), and sesame oil (if using). Set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef, season with black pepper, and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove beef from the pan and set aside.
- Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the pan. Add broccoli florets and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until bright green and just tender. Add a splash of water if needed to help steam the broccoli.
- Add minced garlic (and ginger, if using) to the pan and stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Return the cooked beef to the pan. Pour in the sauce mixture and stir well to coat everything evenly.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and everything is heated through.
- Serve hot over cooked rice.
